As members know, we chose not to have a meal during our meeting, which is a staple of Rotary, as so many fellow citizens around us can't take a healthy dinner for granted....

Dovetailing perfectly with that no meal sentiment, our guest speaker Monday was Alex Wright , founder of the African Heritage Food Co-op.  Alex founded this org, and is building it on the basis of sustainability and true self-help. As is well documented, our poorest citizens, while maybe not starving, are consuming "cheap" calories which are having a long-term detrimental effect on them physically and emotionally. The African Heritage Food Co-op interdicts that with fresh vegetables and fruits, all year round! Rather than creating our own story, below is a link to a piece in Buffalo Rising about Alex and his endeavor.  Please take a minute to read this if you could not make Monday's meeting. We ( a number of us) have asked Alex to provide more information so we can potentially work it into a sustaining grant from our club, as the African Heritage co-op is precisely the kind of community-based endeavor we seek to support.

Thank you Alexander Wright!
